City of Bellevue ordinances allow for naming a street or public facility, "...when such person or entity has made a significant contribution to the City by enhancing the quality of life and well-being of the city and its citizens." On April 23rd, 2018, the Bellevue City Council passed a resolution to approve Mayor Rita Sanders' request to name the road in American Heroes Park. At 10:00 am on May 4th, 2018, the City will hold a naming ceremony, honoring former Bellevue Mayor Jerry Ryan with "Jerry Ryan Plaza"! We hope to see you there!
During his tenure (1998-2006), Mayor Ryan led the effort to install the wrought iron fencing around the Bellevue Cemetery; brought what is now Nebraska Medical, to Bellevue; and partnered with the State of Nebraska to build the Veteran's Home. So, what's the AHP connection? Mayor Ryan is credited with getting Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) to raze the Kramer Power Plant; and leading the city to redevelop the site as a regional park dedicated to the American Heroes in our community.
AHP Volunteers is honored to help keep Mayor Ryan's vision alive. Thank you, Sir, for daring to dream!
